# 1001
Ketland Eagle Head Saber

Price $950, Grade (B-)

This early British import, is an extremely rare Eagle Head "five ball" light artillery saber Manufactured by William Ketland & Co., including an ever rarer "five ball" counter guard. The crowning rairity is the open mouthed Ketland eagle. The blade, guard and bone grip are in good condition. The light yet ornate blade engraving is still visible. The scabbard is 100% complete with a recent attempt by the previous owner to polish and secure the somewhat loose scabbard tip. The polishing is why we gave this piece a (B-). At American Swords, alteration, even polishing, is not recommended for such an honored piece of American Military history. The polished scabbard tip will regain it's patinal naturally over time. However, structural repair is sometimes necessary to preserve a fine piece and one could consider it partially restored with polishing of the brass the final step.
